Squid Lips, Candy Cows & Margaret River

Entrance to Lake Cave Western AustraliaMy partner and I spent a lovely 3 nights away recently in Margaret River, at the beautiful Riverside Tourist Park in Willmott Avenue, a stone’s throw away from the Town centre! We left the suburbs of Perth around 11.00 am on Thursday 23rd April and arrived at our new temporary residence 3 hours later.

Margaret_River_Town_MapOur domicile was a small 2 person chalet, number 15, quite close to the Office. The park consists of a great number of different accommodation arrangements, to accommodate singles, couples and families, and includes lovely awesome cottages alongside the Margaret River.

Hopman Cup Round Robin Results

It’s on again!  The famous Perth Hopman Cup.  We Sandgropers or Western Australians love the Cup, well at least, I do.  This unique tournament with its fantastic, gorgeous prizes, was first held at the Perth Arena in 2012/ 2013 and will be held at the Perth Arena in 2015.  Sometimes the Cup starts in December, hence it crosses two years!  The Hopman Cup tournament first appeared in 1989!

The ticket prices can be seen at  THIS  page of the HC website, and include the cost of public transport to and from the event.  This practically means you can just show your Ticket for up to 3 hours before the Session you are attending, and for up to 3 hours after, and go on the Perth trains or buses for free!!

My partner and I attended the opening day session on Sunday 4th JanOur seats were further back along the sideline opposite where the Chair umpire sits, in Block 306, row L.  We didn’t mind as we were close to the doors and under the shelter of the closed part of the retractable roof ( avoiding bird surprises on our heads – see my other Post on this Blog ).  We watched the match between Canada and the Czech Republic – Eugenie Bouchard & Vasik Pospisil versus Lucie Safarova & Adam Pavlasek.

Pretty in Yellow & Red

Yellow cupcake

Yellow_and_redCupcake

Yesterday I got a lovely surprise at work, when a colleague kindly gave me this beautiful and tasty Cup-cake from Maven Espresso Cafe for a “treat”.   I was hungry and so after taking photos of this work of art, I ate it.   I do have a sweet tooth.  I have probably tried every type of cup-cake from Maven by now.  I love and appreciate them all.

For more photos and information about Maven’s sweet delights, please see  THIS  post.

Labyrinth Fountain – Perth, Western Australia

Click on the icon at the bottom right of the video, to see it in full screen.

This $1.3 million water sculpture is the work of Danish artist Jeppe Hein. This interactive, family-friendly attraction features jets of water that shoot into the air to create nine “rooms”. The fountain uses recycled storm water which goes through sand filters and is chlorinated to swimming pool standards – so it’s safe to drink if any gets accidently swallowed! The water feature is in operation daily until 10pm each evening and is lit up at night time.

I am really impressed with this beautiful fountain and think it is fantastic to have water jets in the capital city, for good “feng shui”.  I did try to video it myself during the daylight hours but as my attempt was rather woeful, thought I would leave it at this great night time shot.

See photos and more information at this blog   here.

PRETTY IN PINK

A delicious cup-cake from the Maven Espresso Cafe at Raine Square, Perth, Western Australia.    My favourite place in the CBD for their glorious looking cup-cakes.

My favourite is the chocolate cup-cake with chocolate icing and an Oreo biscuit on top!   The big cakes cost $3.90 and the smaller ones $2.50, but hey, never mind what the big ones cost.    I like to treat myself from time to time with one of these “state of the art” decorated cup-cakes.   There are many choices, some with hundreds and thousands, some with flakes, etc.   They have wonderful coffee too.

And yes –  I do actually eat them – that is after first of all feasting my eyes on these works of art.   I love to have my cake, and eat it too !  Yum.

Sunset at Fremantle, Western Australia

Sunset at Fremantle

Here is a photo of the Sun going down at Fremantle, Western Australia.   I took it with my HTC Wildfire mobile telephone at 7.15pm on Tuesday 28th January 2013.   It was a Public Holiday here Down Under for “Australia Day.”

Below is a photo of a section of the water of the Indian Ocean at Fremantle, showing it as dark navy blue.

And following –    are photos of a huge ship, the Taiko Tonisberg, that we saw come into the Harbour (probably carrying cars).

Sunset at Fremantle Jan 2013

I loved seeing the Tug boat with the ship, but by the time I got around working out how to use the camera on my phone I didn’t get a good close up photo of the impressive Tug boat.  I took the photo of the ocean (cropped above) because I was trying to take a photo of a tern (bird) swooping into the water to pick up a fish, but I missed that photo opportunity too.   Anyhow, the first sunset photo is cropped, and just above is the original photo that I took in full.
