Tom Thumb adds !

Tom Thumb is a character of English folklore. The History of Tom Thumb was published in 1621, and was the first fairy tale printed in English. Tom is no bigger than his father’s thumb, and his adventures include being swallowed by a cow, tangling with giants, and becoming a favourite of King Arthur.   Apparently Tom Thumb was good at calculating too.

When I was at High School, I was awarded the Honour Certificate for being the best History student in Year 12.  I love to think about the origin or source of things, and about history.

I bought a beautiful working Tom Thumb adding machine / slide adder in mint condition, together with stylus, case and instructions from the Vintage and Mod Shop on Etsy !!

Perth Royal Show 2015

Purrfectly Cool_Perth_Royal_Show_2015

It’s on again!  The Perth Royal Show, this year, runs from Saturday 26th September until Saturday 3rd October 2015.  Just one week of games, rides, showbags, animals, exhibitions and purchases you wouldn’t normally make!

My sister and I bought our tickets earlier from our local IGA store with a saving of $4, making our Adult priced tickets $25 each rather than $29 each.  Any saving is a saving, we thought.  Having perused the parking suggestions on the official website, we decided to park at Rowe Park, the closest parking to the show at the Claremont Showgrounds.

I’m used to getting up around 6.15 am to go to work, so my sister stayed the night at my house on Friday 25th, then on Saturday 26th, we got up early, had a light breakfast & got ready.  Off we went, with my sister driving, loaded with camera, coffee in a thermos flask, hats, and a bottle of Powerade drink each.  We arrived at the little concrete car park for the actual Park, about 7.50 am, yes, at ten to 8.   We planned to get there an hour before the Show started, because we heard there was very limited parking.   We also though that one had to pay $20 for official parking.

However, because we had got there so very early, luckily, we were able to park in the official car park, rather than have to drive onto the lawn, which I think is what you have to pay for.  Rowe Park was a pleasant grassy area with swings and amenities, a great place for kids to play in or adults to sun themselves to have a sleep, or to do some pleasant reading.  In the car, I sipped my coffee eagerly, while noting a Sign reading “Surveillance Cameras” in use.

If you are driving, I recommend you turn into Langsford Street, Vaucluse Avenue or Reserve Road, off Stirling Highway, as shown below, to get to Stevens Road.   The small Car Park is off Stevens Road.  You then simply get out off your car, and bear right-ish or cross the road carefully ( two lanes ) and walk to the right under the bridge then around to the left and there is Gate One.

Feeling Happy

Let my Love Open Your Heart

Pete Townshend ( from The Who )

When people keep repeating
That you’ll never fall in love
When everybody keeps retreating
But you can’t seem to get enough

Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
To your heart

Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door

When everything feels all over
Everybody seems unkind
I’ll give you a four leaf clover
Take all worry out of your mind

Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
To your heart

Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door

I have the only key to your heart
I can stop you falling apart
Try today, you’ll find this way
Come on and give me a chance to say

Let my love open the door, it’s all I’m living for
Release yourself from misery
There’s only one thing gonna set you free
That’s my love, that’s my love

Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door

When tragedy befalls you
Don’t let it drag you down
Love can cure your problems
You’re so lucky I’m around

Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
To your heart

Squid Lips, Candy Cows & Margaret River

Entrance to Lake Cave Western AustraliaMy partner and I spent a lovely 3 nights away recently in Margaret River, at the beautiful Riverside Tourist Park in Willmott Avenue, a stone’s throw away from the Town centre! We left the suburbs of Perth around 11.00 am on Thursday 23rd April and arrived at our new temporary residence 3 hours later.

Margaret_River_Town_MapOur domicile was a small 2 person chalet, number 15, quite close to the Office. The park consists of a great number of different accommodation arrangements, to accommodate singles, couples and families, and includes lovely awesome cottages alongside the Margaret River.

Hopman Cup 2015 Winners

Tennis Racquet Trophy

We are all Winners when it comes to Perth’s unique annual summer tournament, the Hopman Cup Tennis, consisting of a Women’s Single match, a Men’s Single Match, and a Mixed Doubles, all making up one “tie” or overall match between two different countries.  In my opinion, not only are the players “winners”, but so are the tournament organisers, the audience and sponsors, and anyone interested in tennis!

My sister & I attended the 2015 Final on Saturday, 10th January 2015, at the Perth Arena.  It started at 3.30 pm and finished around 10.00 pm.  This time around we were determined to get Platinum seats, so we saved and we got tickets in Block 210, Row 1.  The Platinum seating are seats at the front near the Baseline and a few blocks right at the front on the Sideline opposite the Chair Umpire, as  THIS  pdf shows ( you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view it, un-tick the download of McAfee security if you don’t want the McAfee software ).  Below are the 2015 prices for the tickets.

You can keep the doc & and over-type to record each year’s results.
Hopman Cup Round Robin Results

It’s on again!  The famous Perth Hopman Cup.  We Sandgropers or Western Australians love the Cup, well at least, I do.  This unique tournament with its fantastic, gorgeous prizes, was first held at the Perth Arena in 2012/ 2013 and will be held at the Perth Arena in 2015.  Sometimes the Cup starts in December, hence it crosses two years!  The Hopman Cup tournament first appeared in 1989!

The ticket prices can be seen at  THIS  page of the HC website, and include the cost of public transport to and from the event.  This practically means you can just show your Ticket for up to 3 hours before the Session you are attending, and for up to 3 hours after, and go on the Perth trains or buses for free!!

My partner and I attended the opening day session on Sunday 4th JanOur seats were further back along the sideline opposite where the Chair umpire sits, in Block 306, row L.  We didn’t mind as we were close to the doors and under the shelter of the closed part of the retractable roof ( avoiding bird surprises on our heads – see my other Post on this Blog ).  We watched the match between Canada and the Czech Republic – Eugenie Bouchard & Vasik Pospisil versus Lucie Safarova & Adam Pavlasek.

Sing

Well, lately Karen Carpenter’s version of “SING” popped into my head, so I had to go & find the You Tube version with the lyrics and post it here!  I have a suspicion that I suddenly thought of it as part of my motivating myself to stay happy and positive amidst the “maddening crowd” ( or not pleasant world and other events in 3-D at the moment ) – to assist in my recuperation from major surgery in mid October.

It also reminded myself that several years ago I myself wrote a poem, about Christmas, which could be a song!  I have no idea how to set it to music or make amendments to set it to music.  If anyone reading this wants to do so, and let me know, PLEASE do so.  This poem is my Gift to you.  It is nice to give back / to Pay it forward / and to be in the PRESENT.

Namaste,  Celine

For love, that is what is right

This track is dedicated to Peace on the planet. It draws from the Sacred names of the Infinite Creator as represented by the Muslim (Allah), Christian (Jehova), Hindu (Rama) and Sikh (Sa Ta Na Ma) faiths.

“Snatum Kaur” means universal / nucleus / friend to all, and the beautiful Snatum Kaur emboides all this and more. The Hero With a Thousand Faces – myth in stories

“Life has no meaning. Each of us has meaning and we bring it to life. It is a waste to be asking the question when you are the answer.”

Joseph Campbell

Joseph John Campbell was an American mythologist, writer and lecturer, best known for his work in comparative mythology and comparative religion. His work is vast, covering many aspects of the human experience.

In 1949 Joseph Campbell (1904-1987) made a big splash in the field of mythology with his book The Hero With a Thousand Faces. This book built on the pioneering work of German anthropologist Adolph Bastian (1826-1905), who first proposed the idea that myths from all over the world seem to be built from the same “elementary ideas.”

Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung (1875-1961) named these elementary ideas “archetypes,” which he believed to be the building blocks not only of the unconscious mind, but of a collective unconscious. In other words, Jung believed that everyone in the world is born with the same basic subconscious model of what a “hero” is, or a “mentor” or a “quest,” and that’s why people who don’t even speak the same language can enjoy the same stories.

Cavalia – Beautiful & Breathtaking

cavalia poster

cavalia water scene

The Media reported that the Equestrian Artistic Show CAVALIA is beautiful and breathtaking, and I found it to be just that.

Perth, Western Australia is fortunate to be graced with several Cavalia performances in 2013, and my sister and I attended the matinee show on Sunday 15 December.   Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide have been added to Cavalia’s first ever Australian tour in 2013.

The lavish production, which has been seen by over four million people in Northern America and Europe, explores the relationship between humans and horses through the ages and features 48 horses and 36 riders, aerialists, acrobats, dancers and musicians from all over the world.

A constantly changing digital background projected onto a 60 metre-wide screen is designed to draw audiences into a dream-like world and a 50 metre-wide stage gives the horses enough space to gallop at full speed.

Cavalia is held in the largest touring tent in the world – a white, 2,440-square-metre big top, which rises about 35 metres high.

I can sum up my experience of Cavalia in a word  –  “unforgettable”.

Cat defeats diamond ring, guitar, toy robot & helicopter

new-monopoly-pieces

Yes, it’s MONOPOLY.

Monopoly’s iconic tokens are said to have originated when the niece of game creator Charles Darrow suggested using charms from her charm bracelet for tokens. The game is based on the streets of Atlantic City, N.J., and has sold more than 275 million units worldwide.   Go to the  MONOPOLY WIKI   to read about the fascinating history of Monopoly.   I played the English / London edition although, because I live in Australia and that is the edition that we bought here.

Out with the Iron and in with the Cat.

A vote was held this year to replace the good old Iron.  The cat defeated the diamond ring, a guitar, a toy robot, and the helicopter to find itself among the lot.  THIS   page here has pictures of all the charms / tokens to date and a history of retirement of old pieces and introducement of new pieces.    Sadly, for those who loved the IRON, it has been retired and replaced with the silver cat.   As someone who loved the iron, and secretly thought the Wheelbarrow should have been replaced with the Cat, I had to concede that the Cat had a place in Monopoly.   Those outraged that a Cat had been chosen should know that cats have “nine lives”.

Thank you, you’re worth your weight in Gold

Thankyou-Card-front

Thankyou-Card-inside

Here is a fun idea to show that you like and appreciate YOURSELF !!

I recommend that you choose a lovely Thank You card or another nice card, from the Newsagency or other source, that you love – and put it in its envelope, put a postage stamp on the envelope and your name & address, and then post the Card to yourself !!

Well, I did, and above is a scan of the Card that I sent to me from me.   This is a nice and fun way of showing  your understanding of yourself – that you are doing the best you can and have done quite a good job.  So, grab a card and post yourself a message to be grateful for, and to cherish.   Don’t say “neigh”, say “hay” !
